This special exhibition reveals, for the first
time, the creativity that brought all four Star Wars films to the big
screen. With over 250 original models, paintings, drawings and
costumes, specially gathered from the extensive Lucasfilm
archives in California, you will be transported on a journey from
initial concept to the finished films, in The Art of Star Wars.
Barbican Gallery has been divided into areas, each with its own
dynamic theme, allowing you to explore the pioneering creativity
involved in the making of the Star Wars saga.
Highlights include:
Artwork Richly detailed, original production paintings and drawings
of the Star Wars universe, along with the dramatic visual
landscapes for Star Wars: Episode I will astound you with their graphic realism. Models The
centrepiece of this fascinating section is Anakin Skywalker's original Podracer - suspended
in the gallery as if in flight and accompanied by dramatic sound and light effects. Creatures
Discover how the amazing creatures that inhabit the Star Wars universe are created in this
absorbing section. See beautiful concept drawings for all your favourite creatures, alongside
original models for characters such as the Jedi Master, Yoda. Droids Two of the most popular
characters in the Star Wars universe, C-3PO and R2-D2, make an appearance in this
section, along with their original designs. Costumes The highlight of this section is the first
ever UK showing of some of Queen Amidala's exquisite gowns from Star Wars: Episode I.
There will be plenty of opportunities for hands-on fun at the exhibition including the chance to
sit on one of the actual Podracers used in Episode 1, and to operate a unique animatronic
character specially created for the exhibition. All young visitors aged 5-12 will also receive a
free activity bag. Media Partner: Empire
