Real Pictures 1979-1999
This retrospective presents 50 color
and black and white photographs,
three video/film works, and a video
installation by Nic Nicosia exposing
the inevitable highs and lows of
American life in an ordinary suburban
landscape. For 20 years, Nicosia
has meticulously staged an
ensemble of characters we can
easily identify with-parents,
precocious toddlers, bizarre
neighbors-in stylized and realistic
suburban environments, revealing
universal and sometimes-ugly truths
and ironies of middle-class daily life.
Organized by the Contemporary Arts
Museum, Houston and co-curated by
Dana Friis-Hansen and Lynn M.
Herbert. AMOA and the Texas Fine
Arts Association (TFAA) are
co-presenting this exhibition.
