'Die Menschen finden sich in dieser Welt zum Leben' is a verse borrowed from one of Holderlin's last poems, which was amongst those he backdated and signed by the name Scardanelli. The 2' piece consists of an old drawing incorrectly dated 1871 (the date Courbet used to backdate 'The Trout' in order for it to coincide with his incarceration at the prison of Sainte-Pelagie).
Chert is pleased to guest, in occasion of the exchange Berlin-Paris, a
solo exhibition by French artist Clément Rodzielski.
"Die Menschen finden sich in dieser Welt zum Leben", is a verse
borrowed from one of Hölderlin’s last poems, which was amongst those
he backdated and signed by the name Scardanelli.
The whole project concentrates mostly on a single image, a poster from
Hermann-Paul dated 1895, repeatedly showed on the central wall of the
gallery.
The second piece in the show consists of an old drawing - made at the
time the artist was looking for work as an illustrator - and
incorrectly dated 1871 (the date Courbet used to backdate “The Trout”
in order for it to coincide with his incarceration at the prison of
Sainte-Pélagie).
In the adjacent bookshop Motto, the latest issue of Palme, a small
magazine edit by the artist, will be on display.
For this occasion, Motto will present a display of books by French
publishers. The list comprises Le Cneai, Paraguay Press, One Star
Press, Three Star Press, May revue, Pétunia, Les presses du Réel,
Kaugummi, Metronome, The Institute of Social Hypocrisy.
Chert gallery and Motto bookstore will be specially open on Sunday,
January 17, from 12 until 8 pm
