The Days of Future Past. Since their creation, tin robots have captured the imagination, especially of adolescent boys. The artist is interested in the visions of the future that these toys instilled in society - how they acted as catalysts for the imagination forming notions and expectations of a future that was already pictured, but yet to be constructed.
The Days of Future Past
Since their creation, tin robots have
captured the imagination, especially of
adolescent boys. The artist is interested in
the visions of the future that these toys
instilled in society-- how they acted as
catalysts for the imagination forming
notions and expectations of a future that
was already pictured, but yet to be
constructed.
The work simultaneously addresses
nostalgia, kitsch, popular culture- then and
now, advertising, consumerism, etc. Mr.
Towery's photographic interpretations
transform the objects from a collectable
toy to a harbinger of cold war promises
both ironic and profound.
Please join us at the opening to celebrate
