A man, some chickens and one corner

Galerie Carlos Cardenas, Paris

Chert presents, for its participation in the Berlin-Paris exchange, a group exhibition of 3 artists from the gallery. At the center of the exhibition, a new sculpture by German artist Heike Kabisch presents us a lonely man, absorbed in himself, possibly waiting for something, under two light bulbs which are resting on his head. As usual in her work, that which at first sight may appear as an innocent scenario, will reveal its ironic cruelty after a few minutes of observation. The phallic presence of the entire sculpture contrast against the solitary presence of the man as well as his pretentious expression and position.

comunicato stampa

Chert is pleased to present, for its participation in the Berlin-Paris exchange, a group exhibition of three artists from the gallery: Petrit Halilaj, Carla Scott Fullerton and Heike Kabisch.

On the wall, a series of drawings by Petrit Halilaj presents some "bourgeois hens", chickens desiring to be peacocks or other beautiful birds; a both grotesque and fascinating assembly of birds of a different feather.

While both those works naggingly insist on human and natural weaknesses, the presentation of Carla Scott Fullerton cuts the scene; overlapping delicate traces of different materials and forms, the Glasgow-based artist creates a rough, angular scenario that contrasts the sense of familiarity suggested by the first two presentations.

Petrit Halilaj was born in Runik, Kosovo, in 1986. He lives and works between Germany, Italy and Kosovo. His work was recently presented in his first solo show at Chert gallery in Berlin, September 2009, and in his first solo show in Kosovo at Stacion, Contemporary Art Center in Pristhina, curated by Albert Heta (until February 7, 2010) and is also on view at a group presentation in Siemens gallery, Istanbul, curated by Melih Gorgun, until 7 of February 2010. In the near future he will be part of 6th Berlin Biennale, curated by Kathrin Rhomberg, June 2010, Berlin.

Carla Scott Fullerton was born in Glasgow in 1980, were she lives and works. Her work is now on show at Glasgow Sculpture Studios (Carla Scott Fullerton solo exhibition, ending January 30, 2010) and was recently presented in her solo exhibition at Chert, Berlin in June 2009 and at Ten Till Ten, Glasgow, August 2009. Upcoming projects include a solo presentation at Open Space, Art Cologne, in April 2010 with Chert, Berlin.

Heike Kabisch was born in 1978 in Münster; she now lives and works in Düsseldorf. Recently she was awarded the Bergischer Kunstpreis (2009) and her work was on view at Wewerka-Pavillion, Münster. Group shows include presentations at Kunstmuseum Baden Solingen, Städtische Galerie Remscheid and KIT - Düsseldorf. Future projects include her first solo show in Berlin, with Chert gallery, in April 2010.
