Bringing together objects and ideas that cross national boundaries, disciplines, generations and media, Simon Starlings extraordinary art has attracted world-wide acclaim in recent years.
His intriguing, evocative and labour-intensive works highlight hidden or unknown associations, while enjoying some of the beauty of classic modern design and the industry of mass-production techniques.
Starlings new works developed specifically for Djungel intertwine diverse sources and histories from the mid-twentieth century textile designs of Josef Frank to a forest in Trinidad. Starling takes us on a journey to examine the processes of transformation undergone by naturally occurring substances to produce the stuff of our material culture.
Continuing DCAs commitment to presenting the best new work by artists in Scotland, Djungel is Starlings most substantial solo show in Scotland to date. He was Henry Moore Sculpture Fellow at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee from 1999-2001.
Exhibition supported by The Henry Moore Foundation
