''Oscillations'' is the overarching concept of the exhibition, and negotiates the relationship between one object and another, as well as the change in condition of an individual object. This dominant theme runs through all of the works.
We are pleased to announce "Oscillations", the first solo exhibition of Johannes Weiss at Galerie Lena Brüning.
Johannes Weiss thematizes the classic medium of sculpture within forms that range from the abstractly organic to the constructively representational. Material, static equilibrium, color and form are the points of departure for his sculptural thought.
In his work, Johannes Weiss searches for pictorial systems characterized by movement and transformation, and also for new models of the psychic and cognitive experience of today’s world. With his project “infernoesque,” he is constantly realizing new forms of social organization within curatorial praxis.
"Oscillations" is the overarching concept of the exhibition, and negotiates the relationship between one object and another, as well as the change in condition of an individual object. This dominant theme runs through all of the works.
It is supplemented by the subtexts of sites and orderings. The site offers the possibility of a spatial visualization of social, intellectual and historical conditions and imaginary size. Orderings serve as imaginary systemizations of these spaces.
The sculptures of Johannes Weiss are means of reflection, considerations for a methodical analysis, and an attempt to approach these themes.
With “Infernoesque,” Johannes Weiss will exhibit at the Galerie Gebrüder Lehmann in Dresden in April and in Berlin in June. His works will also be shown at the International Art Fair Hong Kong and at Art Cologne at Galerie Lena Brüning´s booth. As part of the Erwine Steinblum residency, he will be spending the month of October 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa, realizing new projects.
