The 'Art Prize Aachen 2002' will be awarded to the British artist Tacita Dean. Tacita Dean was unanimously nominated by the jury members Dr. Theodora Vischer, Laurenz-Foundation Basel, Bart de Baere, MUHKA Antwerpen, Dr. Thomas Kellein, Arthall Bielefeld and Harald Kunde, Ludwig Forum Aachen.

The "Art Prize Aachen 2002" will be awarded to the British artist Tacita Dean (born 1965 in Canterbury) on Thursday, December 5th, 2002 at 8 p.m.
"Since the mid nineties Tacita Dean has made an essential contribution to our perception of
the present. Her oeuvre is both precise and poetic and leaves the viewer with suggestive memories of his own life. With her artistic navigation through space and time, she breaks through all kinds of linear classifications and densifies her research material in images of extreme intensity. The works of Tacita Dean are held in high international esteem and will thus create important impulses in this phase of renewal in the Ludwig Forum Aachen"
Tacita Dean was unanimously nominated by the jury members Dr. Theodora Vischer, Laurenz-Foundation Basel, Bart de Baere, MUHKA Antwerpen, Dr. Thomas Kellein, Arthall Bielefeld and Harald Kunde, Ludwig Forum Aachen.
The awarding of the Art Prize Aachen, which dates from 1983, now takes place every two years - this year for the tenth time.
The prize is sponsored by the Friends of the Ludwig Forum, the city of Aachen and the business community of Aachen and is endowed with 10.000 Euro.
On the occasion of the presentation of the prize a current work of Tacita Dean will be shown, announcing her exhibition for the coming year (May - July).
Moreover, works of past prize laureates Luciano Fabro (1983), A.R. Penck (1985), Richard Long (1988), Ilya Kabakov (1990), On Kawara (1992), Christian Boltanski (1994), Katharina Fritsch (1996), Richard Tuttle (1998) and Michael Asher (2000) will be on display.
Duration of the exhebition: 6.12.2002 - 9.2.2003
An exhibition brochure will be available.
Tacita Dean will be present at the press conference on December 4th, 2002 and, naturally, at the award ceremony.
