Artists sought for residencies in Guatemala
The New England Biolabs Foundation in Beverly, MA. has started a
pilot project called ArtCorps. This project places volunteer
artists with a non-profit organization in developing countries to
assist this organization transmit their message in a more
effective manner. They are currently seeking artists to begin a
residency in Guatemala starting January 2001. This would be for a
period of 3-6 months.
"We are convinced that artists can help these non-profit
organizations more effectively communicate their message, be it
one of health, the environment, women's issues or education," they
state. "We had one artist working in a seaside community with
children, and she used her illustrative and teaching abilities to
help with environmental education. We currently have one
performing artist in a rainforest community working with a group
on sustainable agriculture."
