8th International Contemporary Art Fair
15 to 18 March 2002
Various innovations have been introduced into the Kunst Zürich programme: an
annual guest city (Berlin this time), a special section focussing on the guest city
and under this city's curatorship, promotion stands for young galleries - to name
just a few.
We intend to encreasingly link the most recent and youngest art with the works
of well-established artists in the fair's programme and so give the fair an even
clearer profile on the art market.
For reaching these objectives, an ideal date for the fair is needed. Due to the
continued trend of placing art fairs in autumn, our November date was becoming
unfavourable. We have therefore decided to react accordingly and to postpone
Kunst Zrüich to spring.
Two unadorned former factory buildings provide a unique atmosphere this year
again and offer optimum conditions for the presentation of contemporary art.
70 internationally renowned galleries are admitted to the fair on the grounds of
the fair's quality and easy orientation at the fair. They offer, in addition to works
by well-established names, the most recent trends of contemporary art.
The galleries, which have been selected by application of the strictest criteria,
exhibit mainly original works. Original graphics and editions are admitted only in a
limited number.
The selection panel considers exclusively galleries which show an independent
profile and provide continous promotion also for their young artists.
Such a range of established art and works by artists of the new generation
appeals to the committed and curious collectors of today and tomorrow as well
as to the spontaneous buyer.
Guest city: Berlin
For the first time, a guest city has been integrated into the fair's programme and
this innovation will be continued over the next years.
A representative selection of galleries from the guest city, special exhibitions
and panel discussions with participants from the guest city thus offer the public
another specific focus each year.
This year, Berlin has been invited as the guest city.
