Incest is a social taboo.
But, if we look at it in a historical context, incest has a political and economic function.
Thus members of the upper class of several anddifferent societies, become endogamous in order to avoid the scattering of their power and wealth.
Starting from the girl who was a heiress in ancient Athens and had to marry a relative of hers, continuing with the way castes in India preserved themselves, reaching to racistic theories and xenophobia and devotional adherence to tradition and ethnic cleansing, all these show that incest is a field suitable to develop metaphors, a field of unstable equilibrium between what is familiar and what is unfamiliar.
