Pump House Gallery's 2001 selection of student artists from London BA and MA art courses will be exhibited in the gallery. An array of styles and media will be in evidence from sewn asexual creatures, to site-specific painting and stunning photography. Following on from the success of last year's student exhibition, Together Again, And now similarly provides a platform for young artists to present their work to a wider audience.

Included are Carly Rogers' (RCA MA) sharply focused photographs of mini-installations of clothes pegs, blu tak, eggs, matchsticks and coins suggesting an imminent transformation or collapse. We almost hear the drum roll and wait with bated breath. The romance of spectacle is similarly endorsed in engaging video animation by Charlotte Thrane (Chelsea BA). Both artists reference kitsch magic performances of childhood party entertainers or magic shows of 1970's TV notoriety.

In semi-abstract paintings, Elizabeth Murphy (RCA MA) echoes the banality of objects used by Rogers. Reminiscent of Luc Tymens, Murphy's still lives are of subjects such as waste paper baskets and light switches, framed within the painting so as to be almost unrecognisable. These are quiet offerings of muted colours and deft paint handling, as atmospheric as they are silent. A similar silence pervades the photographic portraits by Olivia Fitzgerald. A serious young woman, in domestic or museum-like settings, is ambiguously surrounded by a variety of animals which may or may not be dead and stuffed.

A number of sewn works were evident in the London shows, undoubtedly influenced by artists such as Michael Raedecker and Tracy Emin. Stephen Wilson (RCA MA) makes asexual 'Clangeresque' creatures in patterned fabric, amorphous and lonely, whilst Emma Lynham (Chelsea BA) exquisitely stitches, fishnet-like, over found photographs.

Sam Windett, Lucinda Metcalfe and Mirja Oksanen's eclectic oeuvre explores themes of landscape and architecture. Windett's sculptural constructions are mirrored by his paintings of them. Light is central to Metcalfe's paintings, models and site specific paintings. Oksanen photographs the minimal white freezing built landscape of her homeland.

And now is selected by Pump House Gallery's curator Susie Gray. A gallery talk and opportunity to meet some of the artists will take place on Saturday September 22nd at 2.30pm. This is a free event and no booking is required. Gallery open: Wednesday - Sunday 11am-5pm (Saturdays 11am-4pm) Admission Free.
