"...a timeless space for reflection, for associations made within
the surrounding pressure of an unrecognizable, unfathomable
drone." ( Tom Sherman )
In its on-going investigation into new media and electronic
music, Creative Time presents NOISEGATE, a site-specific
installation using large-scale video projection and
manipulated sound, by renowned Austrian artists, Kurt
Hentschläger and Ulf Langheinrich, collectively known as
Granular Synthesis. The U.S. premiere of NOISEGATE will
take place June 1st to June 25th at the Brooklyn Bridge
Anchorage.
For NOISEGATE, Granular Synthesis will create an immersive
multi-media experience with 6 massive projections of
disembodied heads onto 20 by 15 foot video screens set in the
darkness of the Anchorage's chambers. Using proprietary video
sampling software, audio hardware, and digital video,
NOISEGATE will transform the unique space of the Anchorage
into an enormous media landscape. While the images break
and dissolve, a sonic field of multi-layer pulses envelops
viewers in an environment intended to overwhelm, rattle and
disturb. The piece also incorporates the ambient sounds of the
Brooklyn Bridge.
NOISEGATE debuted in 1998 and was co-produced by
MAK-Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna; Bayerisches
Staatsschauspiel/Marstall, Munich; Kunstverein Hannover; Hull
Time Based Arts, Hull; Maison des Arts, Creteil/Le Manege
