comunicato stampa

The International Film Festival Rotterdam offers a quality selection of worldwide independent, innovative and experimental cinema and visual arts. Devoted to offering a platform to and actively supporting independent filmmaking from around the globe, The International Film Festival Rotterdam is the essential hub for discovering film talent and for catching the early buzz on many world and international premieres.

During twelve festival days, hundreds of filmmakers and other artists present their work to a large and devoted audience in 24 screening venues located within central Rotterdam. Up to 3,000 press and film industry representatives visit the festival to report on its buzz or to take part in CineMart, the largest co-production market for film projects.

CineMart
CineMart was the first platform of its kind to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed. Launching around 40 new projects that are looking for additional financing, CineMart also signals an important start to the 'film year'. Every year, the CineMart invites a select number of directors and/or producers to present their film projects to potential co-producers, bankers, funds, sales agents, distributors, TV stations and other potential financiers and information sources. It offers highly productive opportunities to network and discuss projects. In order to maintain the effective but informal atmosphere which is one of the main trademarks of CineMart, the selection of projects is kept to approximately 40 and the invitation process is selective. Hubert Bals Fund
The Hubert Bals Fund is designed to bring remarkable, socially relevant and important feature films and feature-length creative documentaries by innovative and talented filmmakers from developing countries closer to completion. The HBF provides grants that often turn out to play a crucial role in enabling these filmmakers to realize their projects. Since the Fund started in 1988, more than 750 projects from independent filmmakers in Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America have received support. Approximately 80% of these projects have been realised or are currently in production. Every year, the IFFR screens completed films supported by the Fund. Read more...

Professionals/Facilities
All the professional and press services are concentrated in the congress centre de Doelen, located within easy walking distance from all festival venues and hotels. In 2010 the festival welcomed more than 2700 professional guests, including 337 filmmakers, 388 journalists and 2000 producers, distributors, sales agents, buyers and programmers. The CineMart and Film Office orchestrated around 7,500 meetings and the festival sent detailed attendance lists of almost 250 press & industry screenings and viewing reports of over 500 films in the video library to rights holders. The Sales Club further enhances the professional networking experience for buyers and sellers in a comfortable and informal environment. Read more...

Audience
The festival is one of the biggest cultural events in The Netherlands, and thanks to its large, cinephile audience, one of the best attended film events in the world. Within a compact setting of up to 37 different screening venues (film theatres, museums, art galleries, industry locations), 27 screens and 1500 screenings, it registered 353,000 admissions in 2010.

Education
Throughout the year and during the festival, the IFFR organizes educational activies created for a variety of backgrounds and presented by a passionate group of professionals. These include courses and special screenings for students as well as two talent development programs for international guests: the IFFR Trainee Project Young Project for Young Film Critics and the Rotterdam Lab for young producers.

Distribution
The IFFR distributes a selection of the festival films, chosen among the Hubert Bals Fund supported and awarded titles, in The Netherlands through its DVD label Tiger Releases and online platform Cinemalink.tv.
