comunicato stampa

The 2012 edition of ART COLOGNE will mark a new high point and break new ground with the first cooperation between two independent fairs.
ART COLOGNE will host the first NADA Cologne, creating a transatlantic bridge between New York's New Art Dealers Alliance and the World's oldest art fair.
Approximately 200 international galleries will showcase Classic Modern, Post-War and Contemporary art in Hall 11 of the Cologne Exhibition Centre.
The high-profile gallery list includes a strong turnout of well-known national and international exhibitors and features and exciting showing of newcomers for 2012 edition.
The popular section NEW CONTEMPORARIES and our new partnership with the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA Cologne) will spotlight cutting-edge trends in the newest contemporary art. A top-qualitiy supporting programme of events around the Rhineland will round off the fair

NADA Cologne and New Contemporaries at ART COLOGNE provide an attractive mixture of young galleries from the USA and Europe
Around 200 international galleries from 26 countries will showcase classic and modern, post-war and contemporary art at the upcoming ART COLOGNE taking place between April 18th and 22nd 2012. Alongside numerous new additions, such as Thaddaeus Ropac (Salzburg / Paris), David Zwirner (New York), Nature Morte (Berlin / New Delhi), Roslyn Oxley9 (Sydney), Ben Brown Fine Arts (London / Hong Kong), Vera Munro (Hamburg), carlier | gebauer, Klosterfelde and NEU (Berlin), familiar favourites are also returning. These include Annely Juda (London), Karsten Greve (Cologne / Paris / St. Moritz), Michael Werner (Cologne / New York), Hans Mayer (Dusseldorf), Hauser & Wirth (Zurich / London / New York), Sprüth Magers (Berlin / London), Daniel Buchholz (Berlin / Cologne), Gisela Capitain (Cologne), Christian Nagel (Cologne / Berlin / Antwerp) EIGEN + ART (Berlin / Leipzig), and Guido W. Baudach (Berlin), to name but a few.

In 2012 we will be cooperating with the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) for the first time. It will occupy a separate section within the traditional fair. 32 innovative galleries will participate as pioneers at NADA. Among others, these include Lisa Cooley (New York), CANADA (New York), Neue Alte Bruecke (Frankfurt), James Fuentes (New York), Emmanuel Layr (Vienna), as well as other young galleries with truly new discoveries. This gives visitors at NADA Cologne an insight into the best young galleries from the United States, while collectors and art lovers get to meet the young European art galleries in the context of New Contemporaries of ART COLOGNE. "Both groups are aimed at an international audience with a focus respectively in the US and Europe. This way, we can offer a unique mixed perspective of art from both sides of the Atlantic", Daniel Hug says excitedly about ART COLOGNE's most recent development.

In addition, ART COLOGNE 2012 is dedicating a special exhibition to the German artist Dieter Roth at the South entrance to the Koelnmesse.

Other major exhibitions featured at the fair will be hosted by museums in the Rhineland: Kasper Koenig's "Vor dem Gesetz" and Cosima von Bonin in Museum Ludwig; Warhol, Basquiat and Clemente in the Art and Exhibition Hall, Bonn; Albert Oehlen and Kris Martin in the ART MUSEUM BONN; Roman Ondak in K21 in Dusseldorf; Ai Wei Wei in the DKM Museum, Duisburg; and Monica Bonvincini in the Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach.

In collaboration with Spotlist, NADA is pleased to present Click on Art: Art Market and the Internet, a round table discussion about art sales using different and increasingly, differentiated Internet platforms. The discussion will feature Betina Bethlem (Paddle8), Clayton Press (Art Consultant, Board of Collectors Spot), Dr. Peter Smeets (Collector, Board of MMK Frankfurt), Carl Friedrich Schroer (Journalist), Christian Schwarm (Collector, Director of Independent Collectors) and moderator Florian Baron (The Spotlist). As the online market continues to grow, the discussion will address how these platforms reach collectors and the buying behavior of the art community, as well as the overall impact on the dealer, primary and secondary markets.

Performance: Five Drills by artists Brad Killam and Zach Cahill
Tuesday, April 17 at 6pm

NADA is pleased to announce Five Drills, a performance work organized by Chicago based artists Brad Killam and Zach Cahill in collaboration with two competitive wrestlers from North Rhine region. The wrestlers, dressed in competition uniform, will complete a series of five wrestling drills such as pummeling and hand fighting. The performance will last 50 minutes.

This year, NADA will again partner with online exhibition destination and marketplace Paddle8, which will exclusively handle online sales for the NADA Cologne fair in April. Each NADA gallery will be provided with the opportunity to host a virtual storefront at www.Paddle8.com through which they may accept offers and process transactions on works using Paddle8's proprietary online platform, which leverages technology to facilitate the viewing, curating and acquisition of art. NADA Cologne will be active on Paddle8 from April 11 through April 24, including the week before the fair, when Paddle8 members may preview and begin to acquire works from NADAʼs exhibitors.
