The 25th Biennial of Graphic Arts is curated by Christophe Cherix, assistant curator of the Graphic Arts Cabinet of the Art and History Museum in Geneva. The Biennial is composed by a group show, historical presentation of the International Biennials of Graphic Arts from 1955, and a symposium The Producers.
In general terms the exhibition deals with the multiple image as a means of communication for the presentation of different ideas and projects. The exhibited works can be viewed as a treasure of projects both past and future, already or yet to be realised, as well as projects existing merely as ideas. The bulk of the invited artists present works made especially for the Ljubljana Biennial. Some of the works can be seen on billboards around Ljubljana, in Slovene dailies Delo and Dnevnik, and on in park Tivoli in Ljubljana.
The library of artists' books, brochures and other printed materials published between 2000 and 2003 forms a composite part of the exhibition. The organisation and presentation of the library point to its visual and contextual quality as an independent fine art form, one which logically complements the exhibited works themselves. The selected, documented, archived and displayed materials offer thorough information about the exhibited works to the visitors and acquaint them with creators, artists and publishers of the exhibited editions. The relationship between publisher and artist is also the theme of the symposium The Producer organized by Lionel Bovier, which features a number of invited publishers and several exhibiting artists. Furthermore, the International Biennial of Graphic Arts organises guide visits, expert workshops and public talks introducing the participating artists.

From the Cradle to the Grave: Selected Drawings by Damien Hirst
10 June - 28 September 2003
In co-operation with the British Council
Damien Hirst, one of Britain's most prominent artists, has accepted the invitation from the organisers of the Ljubljana International Graphic Biennial to produce a completely new show for their 2003 Biennial. The opportunity arose after Hirst was awarded the Grand Prize of Honour in 2001.
It is Hirst's first solo show since 2000 and unprecedented opportunity to see the artist's long-standing interest in drawing. Spanning his entire career, the exhibition of around 100 drawings, drawn from public and private collections, ranges from humorous drawings for close friends to documentary sketches for major works. The subject matter is immense and incorporates everything from cheap notepaper, restaurant stubs to doilies and the back of envelopes.
This exhibition will tour to St Petersburg, Berlin, Dublin and Barcelona.
Opening: June 10 at 9 p.m.
Location: International Centre of Graphic Arts
