Melbourne International Film Festival presents an annual showcase of the widest possible range of outstanding filmmaking from around the world. It seeks to celebrate the finest achievements in film, recognising artistic excellence in all its forms, among the many genres and the various disciplines involved in filmmaking. Over 18 days the Festival screens nearly 300 films and presents the latest developments in Australian and international filmmaking, offering audiences a wide range of features, shorts, documentaries, animation, experimental films and multimedia.

in filmmaking.
Over 18 days the Festival screens nearly 300 films and presents the latest developments in Australian and
international filmmaking, offering audiences a wide range of features, shorts, documentaries, animation,
experimental films and multimedia.
Prepare yourself for 18 days of new and controversial cinema from all corners of the globe. This year's
theme, "See what's out there", promises to introduce a generation of bold and brave filmmakers, to expose
trends in world cinema and explore the ever changing possibilities for the future of film.
The special focus on France, which is testament to their extraordinarily innovative and dynamic industry, will
be enhanced by a retrospective on Claire Denis. A celebration of the work of surrealist Luis Bunuel marks
his centenary. The Spotlight on Seijin Suzuki is bound to inspire and provoke while the focus on Ken Russell
includes films rarely seen.
I hope that this celebration of cinema with it's many themed and varied forms offers you a unique way of
