A unique collaboration between Denmark and Sweden has been established
with Kulturbro 2000. The concept has been to create a cultural event which
is comparable with the most impressive cultural events in Europe. This
year's programme has just now been published and provides complete
information about the wide range of dream projects participating in the
biennial.
Kulturbro 2000 is a Danish and Swedish biennial of art and culture and one of
the most impressive cultural events in Scandinavia ever. It takes place from
September 15th - December 15th and will in the future occur every second
year. In the long term, Kulturbro will be comparable to the most imposing
events of high culture in Europe.
The programme reveals more than 50 dream projects arranged by over one
hundred well-established museums, theatres, concert halls, art galleries, and
dance stages located across the Øresund Region. Half of the projects belong
to the visual and pictorial art and the other half to dance, music, theatre, and
design. The projects encompass not merely Danish and Swedish artists but
artists from across the world, thus ensuring a biennial of a high international
standing.
Kulturbro 2000 does provide something of interest for everybody, though not
necessarily for everybody all the time. The biennial presents both
contemporary as well as groundbreaking experimental art, and it also offers
classical modernistic exhibitions, music theatre, and trendy design installations.
The programme offers names such as: Francis Bacon, Asger Jorn, Andy Warhol,
Yves Klein, Carolee Schneemann, Mona Hatoum, and James Turell, Alexander
Rodchenko, Kasimir Malevitj, Jasper Johns, Ad Reinhardt, Robert Rauschenberg,
and Egon Schiele, Fredrik Hill, Eugéne Delacroix, Gustav Klimt, Edward Munch,
Paul Gauguin, Puvis de Chavannes, and Gustave Moreau, Laurie Anderson,
Peter Greenaway, Robert Wilson, and Tom Waits.
Kulturbro 2000 is a sensational project, as two countries collaborate across a
border seeking to explore and strengthen a shared cultural identity in unity
with the cultural institutions of the region. The concept of the biennial is closely
related to the political ambitions of Denmark and Sweden to create a
cross-national region with a shared cultural identity. Kulturbro 2000 aims to
integrate Danes and Swedes and to function as a flagship to the high artistic
standards of the region. The biennial is also a celebration of the opening of the
fixed link between the two countries as well as a celebration of the birth of a
new region - The Øresund Region.
The Danish and Swedish Ministries of Cultural Affairs, the local authorities of
Copenhagen and Malmö, the district authorities of Skåne, and representatives
of trade and industry from Sweden and Denmark are financing the Kulturbro
200 Foundation.
The Foundation enjoys the patronage of H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of
Sweden and H.R.H. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.
