will host a lecture by noted author and critic on photography, A.D.
Coleman.
Photography enters the 21st century firmly established as the
defining visual medium of the 20th century. It steps into the new
Millennium as the core technology of all contemporary visual
communication systems. Broadly defined, creative photography -
fine-art and documentary photography and photojournalism, fashion
and editorial photography, and photo-based art - has become a
world in itself, which media critic A. D. Coleman has dubbed "Mundo
Fotografico."
Coleman has observed the emergence of this now globalized
environment since it began to develop more than three decades ago.
In this slide-illustrated lecture, he will serve as a knowledgeable
guide to this new context for photography, offering both the
newcomer to the photo scene and the more experienced looker at
pictures useful strategies for thinking about and utilizing the
opportunities that the "international image community" makes
available. Whether you're a collector, a photographer, a photography
teacher or student, a picture professional, or a member of the
medium's steadily growing audience, you'll find this practical and
insightful presentation an enjoyable and illuminating introduction to
the highways and byways of "Mundo Fotografico."

pm in the Golden Gate room, Landmark Building at Ft. Mason
