Can't Pet This. Art @ Large is proud to present an exhibition of Photographic works by Pet Silvia. The performance artist who performs silently from within his studio using gender issues as the basis of much of his art. The longing to be the 'pretty girl' in the magazines is partly to blame for this inspiration, but also to be the artist's model in a great work of Fine Art.
Can't Pet This
Art @ Large is proud to present an exhibition of Photographic works by Pet
Silvia.
The performance artist who performs silently from within his studio using
gender issues as the basis of much of his art. The longing to be the 'pretty
girl' in the magazines is partly to blame for this inspiration, but also to
be the artist's model in a great work of Fine Art.
The works all begin with photography, and then are explored through a myriad
of 'machine' processes. From xerographic and laser prints transfered to
canvas with acrylics & oils, to digital Giclée on canvas and type 'C'
prints. Of particular note is a unique sculptural series of 3D dioramas,
built entirely from scratch with Pet as the inhabitant of several rooms, not
unlike the settings in a dollhouse.
Questions are raised regarding perceptions as to what is definable as a
'body-beautiful', and the stereotypes that hardly any woman in real life can
ever hope to attain. Silvia shows us that we're all really beautiful, if we
can just not take ourselves so seriously. That, with sexuality and the
desire confessed, leads us to think about our own perceptions of self and
what turns us on.
