Film Screenings
2014. USA. Directed by Ryan Murphy. Originally shown on HBO, Ryan Murphy's film version of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart won both the 2014 Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie and the equivalent honor at the Critics' Choice Awards. Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac, The Kids Are All Right, The Avengers, Foxcatcher) gives a moving portrayal of an aggressive AIDS activist in 1980s New York, during the darkest days of the epidemic. Kramer's semi-autobiographical account of the creation of the Gay Men's Health Crisis in response to local prejudice and governmental denial of reality is an enduring record of an era that cries out for remembrance.
