Meet the Artist: Tour and Discussion
Join printmaker and painter Eileen Cooper RA for a guided tour of her exhibition Hide and Seek, and a unique opportunity to discuss her richly diverse practice in an intimate setting over coffee and conversation. Artist Eileen Cooper was elected a Royal Academician in 2000, and was made Keeper of the RA in 2010, the first woman ever to hold this post. She brings an unapologetically female perspective to her subject matter, which features bold, iconic images of the female form. Her concerns are as relevant and timeless as those of the human spirit itself, encompassing sexuality, motherhood, life and death. In Hide and Seek, the focus shifts from Cooper's richly coloured, expressive paintings to her works on paper, exploring the media of charcoal, pencil, pastel and ink. In this tour, she reveals the story of her practice, discussing her approach to the autobiographical elements of her work and how her career as an artist has developed over the past 40 years. Monday 15 June 2015, 1 - 2.30pm.
