Alberto Garcia-Alix
The Cultural Biennial, parallel activities of BIACS1, presents the Video
Festival with the worldwide premiere "Me ves y sufres" -See me and Suffer-(2004)
by Alberto Garcia-Alix. The 8´ video will be on till 23.00.
Born in Leon in 1956, Alberto Garcia-Alix begins his profesional career as a
fotographer in 1976. He started using his camera as an instrument to perpetuate
his emotions and experiences in a way of classifying his own personal universe
on black and white format: portraits of friends and trips colleagues, women and
lovers, familiar scenaries or his different houses, streets, motorbikes, tatoos
or consequences of fights. General acknowledgement arrived in 1999 with the
National Photography Award, recognising not only his work as a creator but as a
feature writer of his time.
From Alaska, Fabio McNamara, Rosi de Palma, Poli Diaz or Camaron de la Isla to
porno stars such as Nacho Vidal or Cicciolina, all of them have been captured by
his camera. These are images of a first period strongly tied to a specific time
and place: Madrid in the 80s, then he suceded in moving beyond this context.
Along his extensive profesional experience, GarcÃa-Alix has touched many
different fields: short films and documentaries director; films collaborations
such as El Dorado by Carlos Saura as well as illustrated fashion reports. Plus,
between 1989-1998 he was captain of his own publication: Canto of the crew
(taken from one of Pierre Mac Orlan novels) where he displayed his most
intimate works.
