Five days buying, selling, viewing and discovering art

In George Square, at the very heart of Glasgow’s city centre, you’ll find 53 selected galleries showing work of the highest quality. Regular favourites and exceptional new exhibitors will be side by side in the Main Pavilion whilst some of the most innovative Scottish talent will be on view in EXTENSION.

Glasgow Art Fair is the place to buy, sell and view art in Scotland. Whatever your taste or your budget, with over 1000 national and internationally renowned artists’ work for sale you’ll find a diverse range of modern and contemporary works in all media. Attracting visitors from all over the UK and beyond there’s no better place to get a sense of what’s going on in the art world today.

Following the success of last year, SPIN are back to talk to visitors about all aspects of enjoying contemporary art. Visitors will be able to browse through the extensive collection of exhibition catalogues and books in the SPIN library, and get information about exhibitions, venues and projects all over Scotland. SPIN will also be presenting an extensive talks and tours programme, full details of which are available by clicking here.

Glasgow Art Fair is delighted to be an integral part of GLASGOW INTERNATIONAL, Glasgow's first, curated and commissioning Festival of Contemporary Visual Art. This festival will take place across the city over twelve days from Thursday 21st April until Monday 2nd May, 2005. SPIN will be operating daily guided bus tours to Gi venues, leaving from right outside the Art Fair pavilion in George Square.

Returning for a third year the critically acclaimed contemporary pavilion, EXTENSION, will once again house nine of Scotland’s most innovative and cutting edge visual arts organisations. EXTENSION is a showcase of new, groundbreaking work currently being produced by Scottish and International artists, and this year will feature: Aurora, The Changing Room, Collective Gallery, The Embassy, GENERATOR projects, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Lapland, Market Gallery and Volume.

Spin is a joint initiative between the National Galleries of Scotland Education Department, the Contemporary Art Society, and from spring 2005, Glasgow City Council.

GUIDED TOURS 2005
Tour the fair with regular, informal tours hosted by Spin volunteers – meet gallery owners and chat about works on show.

TALKING ART
In Glasgow Art Fair’s dedicated lecture space, In Media Res* curate a programme of lively chaired discussions, artist’s talks and practical workshops. Writers, corporate collectors, teachers and artists all talk about their approaches to buying, interpreting, making and displaying art. FREE

*Emma Nicolson and Kirstie Skinner established In Media Res in 2005, to deliver art interpretation, mediation, research – in the form of schemes such as Spin - to a wide range of institutions and clients.'
