Melbourne-Osaka Exchange project.
This major exhibition of recent work by Sydney artist Rosemary Laing will be presented at ACCA following its showing at the National Museum of Art in Osaka, Japan. It represents the first solo exhibition of an Australian artist at that renowned institution and is the second part of an exchange project between this museum and the Monash University Gallery. Curated by Natalie King, the exhibition brings together two major bodies of Laing's photographic work plus a new video installation. Greenwork and Brownwork deal with panoramic vistas and the interface between landscape and technology. Spin is an aerobatic video installation that positions the viewer in the pilot-passenger seat. As part of the development of this project, Laing has recently undertaken research at NASA, the Dryden Flight Research Center, Los Angeles and the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
The exhibition will be opened by Judy Annear Curator of Photography at the Art Gallery of New South Wales at 6-8pm Friday 2 July.
