Miss Wet is a swedish self-elected Miss that discusses equality, gender, power and
the image of the “liberated" swedish woman in Sweden and abroad. The project is
a collaboration between three artists and not only based on personal experiences
but also on discussions on this subject taken place with both women and men in
Albania.
The idea of the project started during our stay in october 2005, when there was a Miss
competition in Tirana. All over the world an uncountable number of women compare
their bodies with other women and some are still dreaming of winning a Miss title, and
the most desirable is of course the one of Miss Universe. This competition, supported
by both men and women, does not only exist in the organized form but also in everyday
life. Through media, attitudes and laws, women are intrusively told how to compete and
how to behave properly to please the expectations according to the current values of the
society.
Our ambition is to create a debate and discussion concerning these
issues, that common and different opinions and experiences will meet and
also that prejudices will be revealed. Hopefully the project will also give
new experiences and inputs both to us and the viewer despite of sex and
heredity.
