This series pays tribute to an actress who successfully made the transition from
silents to sound movies. Films include F. W. Murnau’s Sunrise (1927), Victor
Fleming's The Farmer Takes a Wife (1935; with Henry Fonda), and
William A. Wellman’s A Star Is Born (1937).
A View from the Vaults 2006: Recent Acquisitions and Restorations

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the opening of MoMA’s Celeste Bartos Film
Preservation Center in Hamlin, Pennsylvania, this series presents work from the
collection, including David Lynch’s The Straight Story (1999), Vincente Minnelli’s
The Band Wagon (1953), Pete Docter's Monsters, Inc. (2001), and Patricia Cardoso’s
Real Woman Have Curves (2002).
Another Wave: Global Queer Cinema, Part One
July 5-21
This brings together a broad palette of international queer cinema produced since
the late 1980s. Though North America and Western Europe are often recognized for
their prolific output of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender film and media, a
wide range of works from sub-Saharan Africa, India, New Zealand, Thailand,
Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Israel, and China is less often made available.

Ozon at the Beach

This survey of Francois Ozon’s beach films illuminates his disquieting view of the
seashore. The most recent, Time to Leave (2005), starring Melvil Poupaud and Jeanne
Moreau, is screened on Wednesday, July 12, at 8:15 p.m.
Premiere Brazil! 2006
July 13-23
This year, Premiere Brazil! begins with a week-long run of Breno Silveira’s Two Sons
of Francisco. Based on a true story, this spirited parable of survival was Brazil’s
number one box office hit of 2005. Also screened is Marcelo Santiago’s sensuous and
intriguing debut Dancing in Utopia.
Dada on Film
Through August 12
Landmark films from the Museum's collection-all produced between 1921 and
1928-including work by Rene' Clair, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, and Hans Richter. This
series is held in conjunction with the MoMA exhibition Dada, now on view.
Vittoria De Seta: A Retrospective
Through June 30
De Seta's acclaimed documentaries made in Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria are
characterized by beautiful color, keen observation, and ambient soundtracks without
narration. The exhibition includes the U.S. premiere of Diary of a Schoolteacher
(1973) among other dramatic films presented by the director in a rare visit to the
U.S.

Seminar, in collaboration with Progetto Cinema Sud di Italia Internazionale
