New contemporary art fair. First edition. The space opens its doors to 25 galleries aimed at the young French and international art scene. Launched by two gallery owners climbing the Parisian scene, Cecile Griesmar and Johan Tamer-Morael, the space wants to complement the FIAC. Two criterions animate the organizers: their insatiable desire for discovering new talented artists with their dynamic and passionate state of mind.
A brand new contemporary art fair celebrates its first edition in October 2006 in Paris.
The SLICK organizers - Cecile Griesmar, Johan Tamer-Morael and Aude de Bourbon Parme -
selected 22 international contemporary art galleries, which will take possession of la Bellivoise from October 27th
to the 30th 2006 (preview on the 26th), according to two criterions : their insatiable desire for discovering
new talented artists with their dynamic and passionate state of mind.
This fair takes advantage of the Parisian artistic scene’s turmoil on the occasion of FIAC and the
international recognition of its sponsoring comity and its members - Caroline Bourgeois, Henry-Claude
Cousseau, Alain Fleischer, Louis Ne'gre and Sonia Rykiel - in order to reveal these talent finder galleries
and to put forward Paris’ vim in terms of contemporary art.
SLICK, a commercial and easy going fair, is an opportunity for the public to discover artists that have
rarely or never participated to an exhibition, at still affordable prices, as well as to meet enthusiastic and
relevant gallerists. Gallerists, editors, organizers and artists work together to offer an original, astonishing
and friendly FIAC’s off.
Cecile Griesmar and Johan Tamer-Morael, two parisian gallerists and a journalist, Aude de Bourbon
Parme, decided to set up SLICK this year, when FIAC newly establishes itself in the center of Paris.
SLICK is meant to be fathomed as a discovering and meeting place, hand in hand with FIAC. It is
also, for the introduced galleries and their artists, a springboard to FIAC as well as a visibility space.
SLICK’s organization makes it a point to offer a pertinent and astonishing selection of contemporary
art galleries.

Why choosing such a name for the new fair ? This term perfectly reflects its identity. As an adjective,
it qualifies in particular an action cleverly and efficiently accomplished. As an expression from american
informal language, “it’s slick", which means “it’s cool". Its sonority also is sharp and dynamic. But this
word also has manifold meanings and the idea that it can escape from only one definition perfectly fits
the SLICK’s organizers’ point of view on contemporary art.
The choice of La Bellivoise is an answer to several criterions that allow SLICK to claim its identity :
• The building, a former cooperative built in 1877, held political meetings and has always been a place
for creation and innovation.
• SLICK’s organizers want this fair to be friendly and pleasant to visit, while being a business place.
The Bellivoise is bright, airy, and made up with several levels and many spaces, answering in that way
our criterions.
• Besides the 1000 m2 of stands present on two floors, SLICK offers three lounges, one for snacking,
another for viewing video works and the last one for resting during the visit.
The video room offers to watch works of artists from 22 galleries, as well as two daily programs directed
by the two best spots in terms of video art and digital art, Le Cube (Issy-les-Moulineaux) and Le Fresnoy
(Tourcoing).
The Bar-Restaurant is located in an environment filled with olive trees and Morocco furniture.
If the weather allows it, a terrace with a Paris panorama allows visitors to rest between the two
levels’ visit.
• The geographical situation of La Bellivoise in Menilmontant popular district reveals one of the
SLICK’s objectives : to show France but also to the other countries that Paris is a dynamic city in
terms of contemporary art. Contemporary art establishes itself all year long in all the city’s districts,
such as the Grand Palais, the Louvre (with FIAC), the 16th district and its Palais de Tokyo, the Marais,
Saint-Germain and the 13th district and its galleries’ gathering or the 20th district and its Plateau.
• In order to facilitate the fair’s visit, shuttles will link FIAC and SLICK every hour.

Comity members
The sponsoring comity members support SLICK by their presence inside the comity. Each one of them
participates to SLICK. Thus, Le Fresnoy, represented by Alain Fischer, will offer a one hour daily program
of contemporary art videos. Sonia Rykiel puts forward the SLICK fair in the exhibition “Quoi de neuf n'2"
(“what’s new n'2"), that she organizes in her shops, such as the one on boulevard Saint-Germain, from
September 14th.
