Young and upcoming photography. Richard Ballarian is the guest of honor of this 4th edition. This year the fair confirm its aim: give the floor to engaged photography, representative of a sensitive and observant new generation.
With this news edition, Photo Off confirm its aim: give the floor to engaged
photography, representative of a sensitive and observant new generation,
connected to the real. It is to learn, to discover with accuracy what’s
happen, and to capture the transformation of the world. A search of the
delicate and essential boundary between testimony and artistic gesture, the
fair claim in this difference.
Sarah MOON, 2013 GODMOTHER
“Sarah Moon is an artist whose
work speaks as much of the beauty
that the disappearance, as much of
the
miraculous
perfection
of
a
moment, that the slow corruption of
things” (PR).
Richard Ballarian is the guest of honor of the new 2013 edition of the Off Photo
Bellevilloise.
Dean of the exhibition, art weaves the
intergenerational link between artists.
He takes this opportunity to show the
Urban Man series.
American fashion photographer , he
moved to Paris in the middle of the
seventy years. Meeting with the City of
Light is born the desire to devote
himself
to
art
photography.
"This is Paris , the city , its citizens,
which has inspired me to start this
work", he likes to repeat.
Whatever the format and chosen language, urbanity remain the main subject of his work. With
Richard Ballarian, Paris and its inhabitants seem transposed into another reality. The characters
turn into disembodied , timeless silhouettes, which evolve in a cloud city. Who is this Man
Walking , who are these Students after school? Wandering souls, arms, legs, it is the public to
build their history, their past, their future.
These pictures have the power to create an imaginary dialogue between viewer and artwork.
The bank robbers are only men in a car. The specific work of the artist gives them an enigmatic
dimension.
In this photo Urban Man series is the one that
gave him the most work: “It took me ten, maybe
fifteen films to succeed in this picture. I could not
make one that I like. I spent several nights at
Bastille photographing cars to catch the good
one. In this photo, I found the light that I wanted
the emotions I wanted ... car going somewhere,
but we do not know where, or what they are
saying and doing. They could be bank robbers.
The element of mystery is there. Or at least, I
feel it. This photo illustrates the balance between
spontaneity and long-term work that pace all the
work in this series. The scenes are spontaneous, but shooting is not. »
