The Vagina Monologues

Since its Off-Broadway premiere in 1996, Eve Ensler's play has won fans for its insights into-and its use of humor to confront - taboos about the essence of womanhood. While the title will undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows, The Vagina Monologues has become a national phenomenon that celebrates women's identity, sexuality, and spirit. It stretches artistic boundaries, rejecting the notion that women should be ashamed of or embarrassed by even the most intimate part of our bodies.

Daily Variety describes The Vagina Monologues as a "spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving performance", as it presents a collection of stories based on conversations with over 200 women from all walks of life. Running the gamut from the wonder of childbirth, the horror of sexual abuse, and even the indignities of pelvic exams, it explores a range of important - and not often discussed - human experience. And yes, men - as well as women - should hear these discussions.

Performance contains adult themes and language.

(A portion of the national tour's net revenue is donated to the V-Day Fund, a non-profit organization that give grants to organizations working to eliminate violence against women.)
