Art Connexion (Fun Town)

Different venues, Rotterdam

In the spring Dutch young people will compete in preliminary rounds with each other at the Kunstbende: a competition in art and culture. An international programme is coupled to the finale of this event. Hundreds of young people from Europe will gather in Rotterdam in order to work in workshops for 5 days. In this way Rotterdam will form the décor for an exciting cultural meeting of European young people.

11 aug

A parade involving 40 decked out trucks will move through the inner city in the afternoon. On the trucks all kinds of dance music will be played, from Big Beat, Techno and Club to Hip-Hop. The parade will end up in a free mega-party at Schiehaven/Lloyd Pier.

17 ­- 19 aug

A street party with international style where artists compete for the Gouden Straatkei (Golden Cobble-Stone). Musicians, acrobats, clowns, magicians, break dancers, fire spitting artists, puppet players and many others will show their arts and tricks on various locations in Rotterdam.
The Rotterdam 2001 visitors' centre is situated a stone's throw away from Rotterdam Central Station. Here you can find information, purchase admission tickets for R2001 activities and buy R2001 merchandise. The Calypso 2001 café-restaurant theatre can be found at the other side of the same building. The visitors 'centre is open Mondays to Saturdays from 11,00 to 19.00 hours and from 1100 to 18.00 hours on Sundays.
