Anita Leisz’ methodology lies in the way she processes and in her interest of constantly re-inventing herself which is not dissimilar to theatre work; always seeking location and context specific solutions she confronts herself with new situations and not without considerable risk, instead of simply varying the already tried and legitimated vocabulary at hand.
Anita Leisz is interested in things which represent availability and which are not exactly tangible. Having said good-bye in 1999 to the successful protagonist of her wall drawing ”Dennis Rest“, inspired by comics, the work with texts and abstract room elements became the focal point of her artistic procedures. Stories are also told in this newer work which are however more fragmentary, like samples, very often just bits of words or sentences, approbated or self-invented. They broach the most diverse topics such as love, longing or having no sense of place just as they abruptly break off without coming to any conclusions. This approach is comparable to the technique of the stream of consciousness in literature. In her installations the single language and material elements pack themselves in an almost magically loaded place which speaks of the present but can also give space to the fleetingness and fragility of the happening.
Anita Leisz was born in 1973 in Leoben and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Since 1995 she has been presenting her work regularly in single and group exhibitions including in the large hall of the Wiener Secession or in 2005, in the Langenhagen Art Association in Germany.
