Plains Art Museum, Fargo

An exhibition that features contemporary quilts from 33 artists residing in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The quilts selected for this exhibition all relate to environment - natural, built and social -and demonstrate the artistry present in the contemporary quilts of artists in this region.

"Quilts: Fiber for Thought" is an exhibition that will feature contemporary quilts from 33 artists residing in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The quilts selected for this exhibition all relate to environment – natural, built and social. The exhibition opens at the Plains Art Museum on Oct. 25, 2007 and continues until January 13, 2008. Curators for the exhibition are Kim Baird of Fargo and Kimberlee Madsen of Williston.

Objectives of "Quilts: Fiber for Thought" are to showcase contemporary quilts by artists in this region of the Northern Plains and to document these regional quilts and their makers. The exhibition catalog and public programming will provide an overview of the history of contemporary quilts.

This exhibition will demonstrate the artistry and creativity present in the contemporary quilts of artists in this region, it will help viewers gain a greater appreciation for quilts as an important and exciting medium of artistic expressions and it will document the selected quilts and their artists within their place and time.
