Sabato 5 Aprile si inaugurerà , per la prima volta presso la galleria Ciocca Arte Contemporanea, una personale dell'artista iraniano Abbas Kiarostami con la celebre serie di fotografie in bianco e nero, dal titolo Snow White, realizzate dal 1978 ad oggi e già esposte nei principali Musei del mondo ed ora presentata in una nuova edizione . Le opere sono tutte visioni di paesaggi naturali, con una particolare attenzione agli alberi e ai motivi che essi disegnano con le loro forme e le loro ombre sulla superficie abbarbagliante e irregolare della neve. Il risultato è minimale, quasi astratto, e invita, attraverso la semplice purezza di linee, ad immergersi in un'atmosfera cruda e sublime al tempo stesso.

La sensazione di completa solitudine è talvolta spezzata dalla presenza di alcune figure in lontananza, un cane, un cavallo o uno stormo d'uccelli in volo, quasi a volerci riportare indietro dallo spaesamento del cammino intrapreso. Il paesaggio così spoglio e crudo è reso ancora pi๠stilizzato dalla tonalità dei grigi, e ci evoca un'atmosfera di solitaria meditazione, creando un forte impatto emotivo nello spettatore, come se con il suo sguardo l'artista sapesse immergerci fra le mille domande che giungono inaspettate, quando osservi il mondo nella sua semplicità . Chiude la mostra, la magica video installazione Summer Afternoon, dove in un'intima scena d'interni un ventilatore posto dietro lo spettatore dà la sensazione di essere di fronte a una vera finestra, tende e alberi si muovono grazie ad una brezza reale, come se l'artista volesse indicarci la differenza che passa fra il saper vedere e il saper guardare.

Adoro guardare. Guardare in silenzio, soprattutto la natura. Quando si ama qualcuno lo si fotografa, non avete che da vedere il vostro album di famiglia. Il mio album di famiglia è pieno di foto della natura.
Abbas Kiarostami

Abbas Kiarostami è nato a Teheran nel 1940. Fra le esposizioni pi๠significative segnaliamo quella in corso al Beijing Art Museum of Imperial City, Pechino; "Erice-Kiarostami.Correspondances" CCCB di Barcellona, Casa Encendida di Madrd, Centre Georges Pompidou, Parigi (2007/2008); Abbas Kiarostami: Image Maker P.S.1, N.Y.( 2007); Media Installation, (2007) MoMa New York; da segnalare inoltre la sua partecipazione alla 49 Biennale di Venezia, Platea dell'Umanità , a cura di Harald Szeemann in cui presentò la video installazione Sleepers e nel 2003 la grande mostra "Sulle strade di Kiarostami"alla Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo e al Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino, poi ripresa a cura di Elisa Resegotti in quindici prestigiosi musei internazionali. Le sue poesie sono pubblicate in Italia da Il Castoro e da Einaudi. Già premiato nei principali Festival del cinema internazionali (Pardo di bronzo a Locarno nel 1987, con Dov'è la casa del mio amico, Palma d'oro nel 1997 a Cannes, con il Sapore della ciliegia, Gran premio della Giuria per E il vento ci porterà via a Venezia nel 1999 ), Kiarostami è uno degli artisti più significativi del panorama contemporaneo.

On Saturday, 5th of April the gallery Ciocca Arte Contemporanea will be inaugurating a solo show of the Iranian artist Abbas Kiarostami, entitled Snow White, a renowned compilation of black and white photographs, taken from 1978 until today, already on exhibition in many of the world's foremost museums. The works are all images of natural landscapes, with a special focus on trees and the patterns they create through the shadows their trunks and branches cast on the dazzling and uneven surface of sun-bathed snow. The result is a minimal, almost abstract representation which invites us, through the simple purity of line, to immerse ourselves in this harsh and yet sublime realm.

The sensation of complete solitude is occasionally interrupted by figures in the distance - a dog, a horse, a flight of birds - as if to bring us back from the disorientation of the journey we have undertaken. The landscape, so bare and harsh, acquires a heightened stylized representation through its grey tonalities and conjures up a mood of solitary meditation, creating a strong emotional impact on the visitor as if the artist - through his gaze - were seeking to infuse us with the countless unanswerable questions that suddenly surface when one observed the world in its simplicity. Closing the show is the magical video installation Summer Afternoon: in an intimate "interior", a fan, placed behind the spectator, gives him the sensation of standing in front of an actual window, curtains and trees move in a real breeze… as if the artist wanted to confront us with the difference between seeing and looking.

Abbas Kiarostami was born in Teheran in 1940. His major exhibitions include the one currently at the Beijing Art Museum of Imperial City, Beijing; "Erice-Kiarostami. Correspondances" CCCB, Barcelona, Casa Encendida, Madrid,Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (2007/2008); Abbas Kiarostami: Image Maker P.S.1, N.Y.( 2007); Film Retrospective, (2007) MoMa New York Xxxx Media Installation, (2007) MoMa New York; on top of these we should mention his participation in the 49th Venice Biennale, Platea dell'Umanità (curated by Harald Szeemann), with his video installation Sleepers and the impressive exhibition entitled On the Roads of Kiarostami- Sulle strade di Kiarostami at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and the Museo Nazionale del Cinema of Turin, 2003 which toured in 15 major museums. Kiarostami's poems are published in several languages, in Italy by Il Castoro and Einaudi. Kiarostami has won countless awards at international film festivals such as: the Bronze Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 1987 for Where Is the Friend's Home?, the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival for Taste of Cherry in 1997, the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in 1999 for And the Wind Will Carry Us. Kiarostami is one of the world's foremost contemporary artists.
