Eastside gallery, New York

Alex Charpentier’s videos tell no particular story, but the subject matter shares an electric color sensibility and feelings of anxiety and apprehension. Charpentier refers to his videos as 'moving pictures'. Shin-il Kim employs the characteristics of video to manipulate time and space in his search for the answers to phenomenological questions. Kim metaphorically expresses his unsatisfied desires through the use of simple performed actions, minimal forms and fragmented movement.

comunicato stampa

The exhibition Videos is curated by Rachel Gugelberger, Associate Director of Student Galleries.

Alex Charpentier’s videos tell no particular story, but the subject matter shares an electric color sensibility and feelings of anxiety and apprehension. Charpentier refers to his videos as "moving pictures."
The videos only allude to a narrative, emphasizing action by way of a lyrical representation of spontaneous bodily movement and the transition from one point in time and space to another.
Charpentier captures the awkward behavior that may accompany a journey into unfamiliar physical or mental territory. Charpentier is a student in the BFA Film and Video Program.

Shin-il Kim employs the characteristics of video to manipulate time and space in his search for the answers to phenomenological questions.
Kim metaphorically expresses his unsatisfied desires through the use of simple performed actions, minimal forms and fragmented movement.
His goal in art and life is to maintain a balance between his resistance to the external forces that threaten his inner condition, and the acceptance of his inner condition. Kim is a student in the MFA Computer Art Program.

Besides the Eastside Gallery, the School of Visual Arts operates two additional campus galleries where juried exhibitions of student work are held year-round.
SVA also maintains a professional art gallery in Soho that offers select students the opportunity to exhibit their work in the same environment as the country's leading artists.

Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm.;
Friday and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Closed Sunday.

The artists are available for comment and/or interview.
