XV Edition. A multifaceted reality that has room for many other realities on different levels, at different speeds. The Sonar 2008 program exudes this plurality through a line-up of shows, exhibitions and activities that resist simple classification. Special guests are: Justice, Yelle, Diplo, Spank Rock e Boys Noize.
It seems like only yesterday we were
talking about Sónar’s tenth anniversary,
and now we’ve reached fifteen.
One and a half decades of paving
the way, discovering artists and
evolving with them, tracking sounds,
enjoying them as audiences and
contributors to a music scene that
has grown organically from the little
seed in which Sónar always
believed, into a tree with a thousand
and one infinitely intersecting
branches.
This is where our festival is
at now: a multifaceted reality that
has room for many other realities on
different levels, at different speeds.
The Sónar 2008 program exudes
this plurality through a line-up of
shows, exhibitions and activities that
resist simple classification. What
we’ve dubbed ‘the feminine factor’
(in other words, the prominence of
women and femininity in today’s
music and art scenes) sits side-byside
with ‘music bastardism,’ a new
approach to the dancefloor that distances
itself – further still – from the
purism of days gone by, and, as
SonarMàtica shows, the work of
media artists who recover technologies
from the past and use them to
shape our perception of film, images
and light. Best of all, none of these
are completely localised and precise
phenomena – they join many other
ideas that expand and pollinate as
they trace transversal paths throughout
a complex program that aims to
accurately reflect this increasingly
international, interrelated and flexible
breeding ground in which Sónar
wants to keep playing a crucial role.
A situation that simply didn’t exist fifteen
years ago. Fifteen, that’s something.
Welcome.
