The exhibition consists of a cycle of events in three parts and a full stop. Each part will comprise a performance and a relating series of work. Staged in one space, the exhibition functions as a unique event, introducing different timelines: some of the parts appear just once and are substituted by other works, while others are continuously tested when shown in a changing context.
This consciously timed mechanism, allows every single element to be linked with the next element but is at the same time consequential to its precedent. One space, one timeline, and a series of objects, alternate with one another to create an exhibition that is the representation of a palindrome solid. It can either be read from left to right or from right to left.
A performance takes place on the opening night triggering the surrounding group show. When there are props present, they become part of the show; when not, any remnants of the action stay for the duration of the cycle. During the two following weekends, the space will be open at the usual times featuring the exhibition.
The second performance inaugurates the succeeding cycle, which works around a similar structure as the previous one, but introduces new characters.
Finally, the third cycle will close the exhibition with a short opening, functioning as the ending of the progression, where the overall project will receive its title and allows one to restage the show backwards.
First cycle (27th November – 7th December): a performance by Steven Claydon alongside drawings displayed on a wooden support by Kit Craig and a Bedini machine (a free energy machine) by Nick Laessing.
Second cycle (11th December – 21st December): For the first night Nick Laessing’s Bedini machine will remain in the exhibition accompanied by a lecture on ‘free energy’ held by a leading scientist Mr Brown. Further, the space will comprise a series of prints by Ruth Höflich, a structure by Martin Fletcher / Systems House, a series of small paintings by Rowena Hughes and a heraldic sculpture by Oliver Robb.
Third cycle (15th January – 25th January): Oliver Robb’s piece will remain in the exhibition for the first night of the third cycle while Nathan Parker together with three drummers will perform from a half-transparent recording room filling up the box with black smoke. The remnants of the performance will become the structure on which a selection of films by Emily Wardill will be screened.
Full stop (25th of January): Evolving from the third cycle the exhibition goes straight back to its beginning. During the late night opening, the Crystal Receiver For Friedrich Jurgenson (Athanasios Argianas & Nick Laessing) will be installed in FormContents’ storage space, fitting one or two visitors at a time. At this very end, the show will receive its title.
The exhibition is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Elephant Trust.
FormContent is a curatorial project space, initiated in 2007 by Francesco Pedraglio, Caterina Riva and Pieternel Vermoortel in London's East End.
