James Rielly

La Nave, Valencia

Solo show

comunicato stampa

La Nave presents the first solo show by James Rielly in Valencia, that consists of twenty works.

The painting of last years of James Rielly, (Wrexham, Wales, 1956) has its inspiration in the effort of the artist for compiling images that he has selected in different newspapers and magazines but also they are the result of his predilection for the children’s world, predominating in them children's figures that reveal the life to so short age, the feelings, the expressions and up to in certain way the behaviour.

These seemingly fragile and innocent works have a worrying component that fascinate our sight and they makes us investigate after the look of the protagonists looking probably for a pretext to be there, a reason that justifies the repetition of the infantile motives. It could be that someone interprets some of the works as a denunciation to the infantile exploitation, to the mistreatment or the pederasty.

Most of the present works in the exhibition, oils on canvas, are flat portraits in which do not abound the anecdotal elements and all our attention goes to the figure probably because Rielly wants to emphasize the importance of this first stage of our life in which begin to bloom the impulses and desires and there is conforming great part of our personality.

James Rielly lives and works in the south of France. Since 1997 with the show Sensation in the Royal Academy of London he has had a remarkable career exhibiting regularly in renowned galleries such as Ramis Barquet Gallery, New York; Timothy Taylor Gallery, London; Galerie Natalie Obadia, Paris; or Distrito Cu4tro, Madrid, and in important institutions like The Brooklyn Museum of Art (New York), the Palau de la Virreina (Barcelona) or the CASA, Centro de Arte de Salamanca.

His works are part of important collections such as Art Council of England, Tate Gallery, The Saatchi Collection, (London), National Museum of Welsh, (Cardiff), Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, (Edimburgo), Musèe des Beaux-Arts de Nantes, La Collection du FRAC d’Auvergne, Fond National d’Art Contemporain, (France), Sintra Museo de Arte Moderna, (Sintra).
