Celebrating its 12th anniversary, the palmbeach3 contemporary art fair returns to the Palm Beach County Convention Center on January 15-18, 2009. This dynamic four-day event presents more than 80 galleries representing 16 countries from around the world offering highly sophisticated contemporary art, photography, video, installation art and design. The glittering vernissage debuts January 14, 2009.
Both seasoned and novice collectors as well as museum curators and trustees, art advisors, architects and designers cite this Fair as a destination event for cutting edge work at a variety of price points. In addition to a lecture series featuring prominent museum curators, collectors and art critics, the Fair boasts an extensive VIP program of exclusive visits to private collectors' homes and behind the scenes tours of museums.
The palmbeach³ contemporary art fair, sponsored by the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, will open its 12th season with a private Preview Evening on Jan. 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The School of the Arts Foundation supporting the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts is the charity partner for the ticketed event. A highlight of the Palm Beach social season, more than 1,500 collectors, curators and art advisors are expected to attend and will have the first opportunity to preview and purchase a stellar array of paintings, photography, video, sculptures, functional objects and design from 80 prestigious national and international dealers. The galleries will present a range of contemporary art, from museum quality works by luminaries such as Damien Hirst and Robert Rauschenberg, to top works by established mid-career artists as well as the latest from emerging artists – all in a variety of styles and media.
"The opening night event is always high-energy in Palm Beach and sets the stage for the rest of the four-day Fair," said Director Fran Kaufman. "With this year’s new programming and extraordinary collection of galleries, the 2009 Fair is expected to attract a number of prominent collectors from Palm Beach, around the country and abroad."
The art and design collecting experience at the fair this year includes innovative, special exhibitions, including a collection of Romare Bearden’s Caribbean watercolors; a selection of paintings and sculptures by Manuel Mendive, one of Cuba’s most important contemporary masters; an exhibition of vintage and contemporary fashion photography; and an interesting selection of work from the estate of the late Leslie Lerner, a Florida artist with ties to The Norton Museum, Ringling Museum and The Katonah Museum of Art.
The fair also features a new Museum Curator Program that will bring noted art professionals from across the country, including Christopher Phillips, Senior Curator at New York’s International Center of Photography (ICP); Eric C. Shiner, the Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Barbara Tannenbaum, the chief curator of public programs for the Akron Art Museum in Ohio; and Neil Watson, executive director of the Katonah Museum of Art in New York. In addition, the Fair will host a Collector Roundtable lecture series and feature a VIP program of exclusive, private receptions in collectors’ homes, behind-the-scenes tours of prominent art museums and off-site events.

Vernissage debuts January 14, 2009
Tickets to the Preview Evening on Jan. 14 are $75 per person. The four-day event will be open to the public from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets range from $15 for a one-day pass to $30 for a multi-day pass with catalogue, and tickets for students ages 12 to 18 years old are $10.
