Jordan Wolfson - Con leche
For Jordan Wolfson's second solo exhibition at Johann König, Berlin he will debut his new video titled Con Leche (with milk). The title refers to the main subjects of the artwork: animated cartoon Diet Coke bottles filled up with milk. These characters walk through the desolate urban streets in real video sometimes in groups and sometimes alone. The image wobbles, flips and turns inside of the video frame.
A commercial voice over actress speaks from texts Wolfson collected from the internet referencing identity, technology, memory and mortality most of which are personal accounts spoken in first person. Every few minutes Jordan Wolfson interrupts her giving basic instructions and adjustments distorting her tone and volume.
By mixing and combining opposites, playing with analogies and ambiguity Wolfson creates a distorted mix of reality, imagination and cultural critique. He investigates the relationship of technology and media merged with his own personal experience balancing between pop and conceptual art.
Works of the American artist who lives in Berlin and New York have been shown in several institutions: Kunsthalle Zürich (solo, 2004), Swiss Institute for Contemporary Art, New York (solo, 2008), Torino Triennale, Turin (2008), CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco (2008), Tate Modern, London (2007), Whitney Biennial, New York (2006). As the winner of the Cartier Award 2009 he presented a large site-specific project at the Frieze Art Fair.

Michael Sailstorfers
backyardoutdoorsculptureseries#2
Johann König, Berlin is pleased to present Michael Sailstorfers sculpture Wohnen mit Verkehrsanbindung (Living with Transport Connection), Urtlfing (2001-2008) for the second edition of our newly launched backyardoutdoorsculptureseries.
On display is a small wooden house with a door inside equipped with simple furniture and domestic appliances – bed, table and chair, shelve, stove and fridge – electrical light and a toilet. It is part of the project Wohnen mit Verkehrsanbindung, which Sailstorfer started in 2001. Alongside a bus route in the south of Germany the artist picked four bus stops in Anzing, Großkatzbach, Oberkorb and Urtlfing that assemble small houses typical for this part of the country. Sailstorfer refurbished the bus stops temporarily into condensed but functional living quarters. Instead of the waiting benches the commuters discovered a cosy ambience which invited them to linger; making the endless wait for the bus to arrive more enjoyable.
Soon after the set up Sailstorfer undid the transformation. A series of eight black and white photographs is the only reminder that documents these short-lived installations. In 2008 the artist removed the bus stops from their original place and put them up at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt am Main and refurbished them again. Now Urtlfing resides in Berlin and invites visitors for the endless wait for a bus that never arrives.
With the hut being the smallest private home imaginable Sailstorfer questions basic living needs. The title Wohnen mit Verkehrsanbindung offers an abbreviated description for the paradox of yearning for home while longing for the far away simultaneously.
