Art and Television, 1960-65
The New Frontier will be the first to
examine the distinctive impact of
television on the visual arts in the
United States at a crucial period in
the development of both mediums.
The origins of the "television world"
we now inhabit-in which images have
come to mediate our experience of
reality to an unprecedented
extent-can be traced back to the
1960s. The New Frontier includes
works in a wide variety of media by
artists including Wallace Berman,
Bruce Conner, Dennis Hopper,
Edward Kienholz, Yoko Ono, Nam
June Paik, Robert Rauschenberg,
and Andy Warhol. Organized by the
Austin Museum of Art and curated
by John Alan Farmer.
