Have you experienced misadventure? Been a victim or
perpetrator of misadventure? Or are you just curious
about misadventure?
Fourteen artists from the FOAD (Future of Artistic Developments) group will
produce an exciting and thrilling environment mixing misfortune, mischance,
unlucky accidents, and ill-adventure. Via a selection of different media, the
exhibition will provide some insights, explanations, and answers.
Following on from the dual show North/South (where the group were asked to
highlight the debate known as the "north/south divide"), the FOAD group will
continue to explore challenging and controversial themes and practices of art
and life.
The original idea for this collective evolved from two painters based in
North Devon back in 1998. The
simple concept was to stage a series of shows using a succession of
different contributors. A
collaborative group of exhibitions meant that the turnover of work
involved would always appear fresh
and exciting. Any kind of creative project could be included from
painting, sculpture, installation
pieces poetry, DJ's graffiti art, etc. The brief for the shows would
remain the same. All work submitted
would have to be based on the four initial's f.o.a.d. Originally this
stood for "f*^£ off and die" which
happened to be a well-known biker slogan. It really could have been
anything, this just happened to
present itself. With this concept the spectrum of work and subject
matter can be vast, but with the four
initials as a vehicle it forces the contributor to work within a limited
boundary.
Foad can be anything and everything; it simply relies on individual
creative-interpretation.
