svenska glasakademin
is an association of glass artists totally independent of the glass
industry. the glass artists at the academy see glass as a means of
artistic expression, and are personally responsible for the entire
production process. the academy is a forum for swedish glass art
and aims to increase public awareness and appreciation of this type
of art. it is firmly committed to setting up a museum for glass art.
Aesa brandt
about 30 years ago, there were few who believed in her idea that an
artist could blow glass himself in his or her own studio.
Aesa Brandt, one of the pioneers of studio glass in europe, started
the first private glass studio in sweden in 1968. she is represented in
the worlds leading glass museums and has done public art works in
sweden and japan, notably arlanda airport, stockholm and kitayama
childrens daycare center in tokyo.
ulla forsell
is one of sweden's pionneering glass studio artists. after studying at
the university college of art and design in Stockholm (1966-71), the
glass school at orrefors (1971-73) and the gerrit rietveld academy in
amsterdam, she opened her own glass studio in 1974.
ulla forsell's work can be seen in a number of museums all over the
world. she has also spent a year as guest artist at the sweden hills
village center in hokkaido, japan.
her work spans both functional crafts and unique works of art and
characterized with bright colors and resplendent with flowers.
paula bartron
paula bartron comes originally from california, usa. she has a long
education; bachelorÕs and masterÕs degree from the univeristy of
california at berkeley, glass school at orrefors, masters class with
stanislav libensky and jaroslava brychtova, pilchuck glass school,
stanwood, washington, usa, etc.
paula established the studio glass program at konstfack in 1975 and
is currently employed there as Òlektor i glas.Ó she has exhibited her
work extensively and is represented in museums and collections
throughout the world principally in europe, japan and usa.
her work is based on simplicity and purity. the glass surface has a
very special feel and is much more than just imitation platinum.
birgitta ahlin + sirkka lehtonen
two artists, who since more than 20 years are running their own
studio and workshop, working with art glass and architectural glass
mostly for public, business and industrial buildings.
the flat glass is their principal material for artistic experiments and
commissioned works. a great number of their recognised works are
in laminated glass for which they have developed unique techniques.
In various projects they co-operate close with architects and interior
designers.
they are both graduated from college of arts, crafts and design in
stockholm, and have complemented with post-graduate studies in
arts, architecture and glass techniques in scandinavia, poland and
slovakia
