The SV Open exhibition takes as its premise a wish to reveal the diversity of artists' practice within Studio Voltaire's internal and external membership. It is intended that, whilst promoting this diversity, the viewer will feel that each individual artist's concerns are met and that there is a sensitivity evident throughout the installation to the extraordinary architecture of the Chapel and High Bay spaces.
Studio Voltaire is an artist-led arts space and studio provider in Clapham.
The SV Open exhibition takes as its premise a wish to reveal the diversity
of artists' practice within Studio Voltaire's internal and external
membership. It is intended that, whilst promoting this diversity, the
viewer will feel that each individual artist's concerns are met and that
there is a sensitivity evident throughout the installation to the
extraordinary architecture of the Chapel and High Bay spaces.
The 20 selected artists' works form a cohesive collection that broadly
represents each medium of painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and
video.
The artists involved in the exhibition are Laura Aldridge, Freire Barnes,
Loren Beven, Andy Briggs, Sophie Brown, Rosamund Carswell, Rebecca Coates,
Cinzia d'Ambrosi, Richard Davidson, Judith Egger, Zavier Ellis, Debbie
Lawson, Julie Lomax, F. Neslihan Nebioglu, Nik Ramage, Gill Rocca, Darren
Rhymes, Tracy Whybrow, Derrin Stent and Daniel Adam Wallis.
The Chapel comprises 1150 sq ft of exhibition and performance space and the
SV Open will also be installed in six newly built spaces in the 2250 sq ft
High Bay. Launched in January 2001 Studio Voltaire's exhibition and events
programme seeks to promote contemporary visual arts, film and performance
and currently has a membership of more than 60 artists.
The exhibition is curated by Eva Tait.
