Encounters. The artist speaks, the institution invites the public to dialogue

comunicato stampa

Usually presented on Sunday's afternoon, the Ping Pang Pong program proposes a series of meetings with art's key figures: the artists.
For two hours, international artists answer to the questions of the public, explaining their work through the presentation of images, sounds, videos or performances. A meeting is organized each month by the Centre international d'art et du paysage de l'île de Vassivière.
With Mircea Cantor, Marie Denis, Olivier Bardin, Franck Scurti, Santiago Reyes, Didier Courbot, Davide Bertocchi, Barthélémy Toguo, Shahryar Nashat, Fabien Verschaere, Yann Sérandour, Eric Madeleine, Samon Takahashi, Christelle Familiari, Vincent Lamouroux, Shen Yuan, Michael Herrman, Davide Balula, Paola Yacoub-Michel Lasserre, John Lalor, Jorge Peris, Jakob Gautel, Cesare Pietroiusti, Hans-Walter Müller, Pierre Ardouvin, Federico Nicolao, Pierre Malphettes, Claire Fontaine, Jeanne Susplugas, Michael Fliri, Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil, Damien Odoul, Alex Cecchetti, Daniel Firman, Philippe Terrier-Hermann, Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, Love Difference, Camille Henrot, Serge Spitzer, Wilfrid Almendra and Thierry Fontaine:

-- Chrystèle Lerisse

Chrystèle Lerisse develops over twenty five years a work in black and white in a world built out of scale and disoriented by a slip material. The tight framings disrupt the viewer's vision until the confusion. Always located in close proximity to the visible substance of things to photograph, the Chrystèle Lerisse’s work explores their surface to reveal the essence. Light is the grammar of her practice.

Chrystèle Lerisse rids the topics that she used of any personal affect in order to restore a mental dimension. She wants to mark the place of indecision and somehow the impossibility for the picture to exist.

-- Philippe Gronon

Philippe Gronon photographs in a frontal way objects which are
for most of them areas of communication, registration,
containers, objects interfaces that are used to transmit a
didactical knowledge (stock quotes, charts, blackboards,
desks of libraries) or used to revelation and reproduction of images (frames radiographs, bowls
photographic development, lithographic stones).
The objects that Philippe Gronon photographs are always in the same report
exceeded the reality.

Make in the room, drawn mostly from a wide, isolated and laminated on aluminum, photographs of Gronon available to see at first in the strange evidence of their subjects ; they show they are all by applying to make them mysterious, to operate as a de-realization. With the rigor of a frame which disconnects the perceived reality, a work light that interferes with cognitive vision, by using the series in lamin reference, the subject of his photographs is always treated to his potential to highlight a particular criterion or way of representation at stake.

-- Anne Beyaert-Geslin. Painting time

The Centre international d’art et du paysage de l’île de Vassivière starts a new cycle of conferences for a theoretical approach of creation. The reading of artworks by major figures in art history will be conducted by specialists in semiotics and aesthetics.

Anne Beyaert-Geslin, lecturer in semiotics at the university of Limoges, department of letters and humanities, hosts a three conferences cycle on painting and time. Anne Beyaert-Geslin thinks that temporality is at the very core of the meaning of any painting. A meaning that manifests itself as early as the definition of the genres (portrait, landscape, still life).

Painting does not simply invent forms. Through it, it’s the time itself that is put into work in order to expand the field of our experiment. Following the steps of Paul Klee, Paul Cézanne, Max Beckmann, Eugène Leroy, Francis Picabia, Giorgio De Chirico, Glenn Brown and Lucian Freud, Anne Beyaert-Geslin is applying herself to show how "painting time" allow us to renew the way we experiment the world.
