Kurye International Video and Digital Arts Festival

The second edition of Kurye International Video and Digital Arts Festival will take place between May 7-16 and host world famous names in Istanbul.

Realized for the second time, Kurye International Video Festival will take place between May 7 – 16 at Bahcesehir University Besiktas Campus and Istanbul Modern Cinema. Organized by Kurye Video Organization, the festival will showcase video selections from prestigious international partners while bringing together an unprecedented workshop program in order to promote video and digital arts in Istanbul.

Following last festival’s success, Kurye has decided to realize not one but two editions of the festival this year given Istanbul’s current position as the European Capital of Culture. The first edition in May will be devoted to workshops, artist talks and screenings by Kurye’s international content partners, while the November edition will feature this year’s long awaited guest of honor along with several AV events.

Starting off on May 7th with an artist talk by the famous French digital arts collective Pleix realized in collaboration with Istanbul Modern Cinema, the festival will continue through May 16th with numerous workshops, artist talks and screenings. World renowned designer and new media artist Joshua Davis, who was one of the first people to experiment with Macromedia Flash; Karsten Schmidt (aka. toxi) hailed as one of the most ceative designers of his generation in UK, who uses code as a primary creative tool; a design collective founded by numerous artists including the members of famous electronic music group Underworld and operating since the 90s, tomato; and the head of the Animation Department in Film School Zlin of the Czech Republic, Michael Carrington and video artist, Denizcan Yüzgül, who will be back after the success of their workshop in last year’s festival are among the names giving workshops at Bahcesehir University Besiktas Campus during the festival. Famous for the projects he developed for MTV, 3D animation master Joost Korngold (aka. RENASCENT) will also be in Istanbul to deliver a workshop in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Istanbul.

England’s premier center for the promotion and distribution of experimental films, LUX; an art and media center founded in 1989 in Brussels for the promotion of audio-visual arts, ARGOS; a center for video and digial arts in France operating since 1984, VIDEOFORMES; Brezil’s oldest and most prestigious video festival and archive, VIDEOBRASIL; an institution dedicated to supporting and promoting Swedish films, SWEDISH FILM INSTITUTE; an artists initiative from the Netherlands, 1646; a new and exciting festival from Norway, OSLO SCREEN FESTIVAL and a young yet successful video festival from Ukraine, WIZ-ART are among our international content partners whose screenings will be shown at Istanbul Modern Cinema Hall throughout the festival. Another artist talk, realized in collaboration with Istanbul Modern Cinema, will be the tomato talk scheduled for May 14. During the event, the British team will be showing examples of their work followed by a question and answer session. A young and creative production studio from Turkey, gaining popularity especially with their music videos, dgmnd team will be at Istanbul Modern Cinema Hall on May 8th for a screening of their works followed by a q&a sesson.

Kurye International Video Festival will last for ten days and take place at Bahcesehir University Besiktas Campus and Istanbul Modern Cinema Hall.
