Film Screenings
Gaumont, founded in France in 1895 by Leon Gaumont, is the oldest surviving movie company. One genre that has been a constant over the company's 110 year history is comedy. MoMA's salute to French comedy a la Gaumont includes more than thirty films made between 1898 and the present. The first appointment is with 'Cousin, Cousine' (1974. France. Directed by Jean-Charles Tacchella. Screenplay by Tacchella. With Marie-Christine Barrault, Victor Lanoux, Marie-France Pisier, Guy Marchand, Ginette Garcin). This bittersweet comedy of manners was an enormous surprise hit in the U.S. At a family wedding, two distant cousins, both married, meet for the first time. Gossip ensues and sparks fly. (Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 4:30 p.m. , Theater 1, T1). To view the complete film screenings visit MoMA's website.
