Three Exhibitions

Salzburger Kunstverein - Kunstlerhaus, Salzburg

Roman Ondak presents 'Before Waiting Becomes Part of Your Life'. His works, which contain elements of performance, conceptual art, and audience participation, captivate through their ease and 'uncapturability,' despite or precisely because of their formal precision. 'All the Things You Are' by the Lithuanian artists Gintaras Didziapetris and Elena Narbutaite, is a story written in two-chapters, which is concerned with subjects of translation and repetition as well as notions of artistic collaboration. As part of the exhibition series at Cafe'Cult #46, Annelies Senfter presents new works.

Roman Ondák. Before Waiting Becomes Part of Your Life

Even before his culminating presentation at the Biennale in Venice (2009), the Slovakian artist, Roman Ondák was considered one of the most important representatives of contemporary art.

Roman Ondák is developing an exhibition for Salzburg that reflects on the subject of the "queue." In 2003, Ondák appeared in the Cologne Kunstverein for the first time with a staged queue that formed in front of the building every day. Images of this performance, "Good Feelings in Good Times," in art magazines, brochures, and catalogues are presented in display cases constructed from found objects and combined with two videos in which a mother teaches her children how to "stand in a queue."

Roman Ondák's works, which contain elements of performance, conceptual art, and audience participation, captivate through their ease and "uncapturability," despite or precisely because of their formal precision. Social rituals and everyday situations that hardly attract attention are the subjects of Roman Ondák's work. He often includes his audience or specially hired individuals in his concepts, thus making them co-producers.

*Roman Ondák*, born in 1966 in Zilina, lives and works in Bratislava. In addition to numerous international exhibitions, such as his 2008 show in San Francisco or the 2006 show at the Tate Modern in London, Ondák represented Slovakia and the Czech Republic at the 53rd Biennale di Venezia in 2009.

At the Exhibition Cabinet:
All the Things You Are. Gintaras Didziapietris and Elena Narbutaite.

Curator: Simon Rees, Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius

A series of exhibitions and events will take place in October 2010 in Salzburg and Vilnius in celebration of the 20 year partnership between the two cities and the 40th anniversary of collaboration between the state of Salzburg and the people of Lithuania

The presentation "All the Things You Are" at the Salzburger Kunstverein by the Lithuanian artists Gintaras Didziapetris and Elena Narbutaite. is a story written in two-chapters, which is concerned with subjects of translation and repetition as well as notions of artistic collaboration. The artists have designed special display architecture for the "Cabinet" project space at the Salzburger Kunstverein that from September 23--October 24 will contain work by Didziapetris and then from October 27--November 28 will house Narbutaite.'s works for the space.

The exhibition starts with a building - as host. Many different thought models are negotiated in the same space over time. The viewer is usually asked to visit a different exhibition while entering the same room. "All the Things You Are" finds its meaning in thinking of two events at once. Just like the standard Jerome Kern tune, from which we borrow the title, is interpreted every time by a new mind, the exhibition will share ground, both, physical and conceptual in an attempt to play individual works in an overlapping score. /(Gintaras Didziapetris and Elena Narbutaite.)
