Benjamin Valenza

FormContent - new space, London

For the exhibition Valenza creates a setting that employs projection, sound, and objects, which act both as stimuli and theatrical props. A film that relates to the classical narrative of genesis and cosmogony acts as a backdrop to the installation. During the opening night, Valenza will carry out a performance in this makeshift mises-en- scene manipulating undefined forms.

comunicato stampa

Curated by Allia Ali and FormContent

It’s really about reading and thinking at the moment… So nothing material yet.
The event will be proposed in several scenes built around manipulations of objects, i.e. tools-sculpture
The space will be used as an architectural stage… I’m considering using a screen for projections and a hiding place for me during the performance…

I’ll be acting with the video as background, I will be a live integration to the projection cone making up a shadow play… a “mise en abîme”

There will be several different videos/films projected during the performance like “The anchor stone” a video shot in 2010 in the rocky islands, and shores of Marseille’s bay.

I would like to set up a minimal theater and a play on cosmogony with four scenes in response to the classical narrative of genesis.
1- Light/Time/Material… Just a black noise, light may appear with a small abstract projection
2- Sound / Words… When sound becomes a concept… I’m working on ideas for a small text to read during the performance… Starting with mouth sounds to get to the objects on stage. The words will be my material, explored through mechanic means.
3- Functions / Objects… Using language for talking about the objects retaining their symbolic implication
4 - Ending/Pause… Lights back in the room… A white noise…
The Ephemeral Cosmogony is a machine that disperses language.
