A film program on two evenings

For several years, artists have increasingly addressed serial narrative structures, which are mostly known from TV culture. In so doing they do not just draw on similar narrative patterns and themes, but also on the formal-aesthetic peculiarities of the format. In Shana Moulton’s series Whispering Pines, the protagonist Cynthia – a hypochondriac housewife, who immediately refers to the original target public of such TV formats – persistently searches anew for redemption in her household consumer world.

The artist’s settings forcibly recall the cheap stage constructions of soap operas. Ellen Cantor’s Pinochet Porn Trailer (2009) is, as is already indicated in the title, only a trailer for a series of films which take on the lives of five characters who grew up under Pinochet’s regime and weaves them into one another, indicating an endless narration pattern. These artistic strategies are also influenced by conceptual minimalist art strategies as well as pop culture.

The film project will be drawn together and presented by Raphael Gygax. The project will be presented on two evenings. Part 2 will take place on March 16, 7 pm.
